We all walk on the same Earth. Racism sucks life

Unfortunately, in Italy – in a Europe that increasingly expels and discriminates – racism is widespread, so much so that at an international level the view of our country is downright shameful: ‘Italy is one of the most racist societies’ (Source: Second European Union Minorities and Discrimination Survey – Main results 2017).

UN appeals have not been counted since it established this day in 1966 in memory of the massacre in Sharpeville, the South African town where, on 21 March 1960, police killed 69 people peacefully demonstrating against apartheid policy.

Of course, no country is immune to intolerance or hatred. Africans and people of African descent, Asians and people of Asian descent, minority communities, indigenous peoples, migrants, refugees and many others, all continue to face stigmatisation, discrimination and violence.

We all have a responsibility to stand in solidarity with the equality and human rights movements. We must listen to those who suffer injustice and ensure that their concerns and demands are at the centre of efforts to eliminate discriminatory structures.
