Time for Creation: let us do Justice and Peace by participating in this World Day of Prayer

Creation Time begins today, 1 September, with the celebration of the “World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation” and ends on 4 October with the feast of St Francis of Assisi, when the second Laudato Sì “Stop War on Creation” will be published.  In his Message, Pope Francis invites people to listen to “the call to stand by the victims of environmental and climate injustice, and to put an end to this senseless war on creation”.

This is a time for the worldwide ecumenical family to come together to listen and care for the ‘Common Home’. It is a time to convert through prayer, reflection, celebration and then consciously move on to concrete gestures that better protect Creation. The theme chosen for 2023 is “Let Justice and Peace Flow” inspired by the prophet Amos: “Rather like waters let right and justice flow like an everlasting stream” (Amos 5:24).

How can we contribute to the mighty river of Justice and Peace in this Time of Creation?

First, we contribute to this powerful river
by transforming our hearts, our lifestyles and the public policies
that govern our societies

“God wants everyone to seek to be just in every situation, to strive always to live according to his laws and thus make it possible for life to flourish in fullness. When we seek first the kingdom of God (cf. Mt 6:33), maintaining a just relationship with God, humanity and nature, then justice and peace can flow, like an inexhaustible stream of pure water, nourishing humanity and all creatures.(from Pope Francis’ Message).
