World Day of the Poor
“Jesus Christ became poor for us”. Spiritual poverty and material poverty are linked
Today marks the 6th World Day of the Poor, a further opportunity to focus on the last of the poor and people in situations of grave difficulty, especially migrants, the homeless, the unemployed, refugees, those who cannot make ends meet, those who are forced to flee because of the consequences of climate change, etc.

In his message, addressed to all Christians, the Pope invites us to turn our gaze to Jesus who, echoing the words of the Apostle Paul, “from being rich, he became poor for your sake, so that you might become rich through his poverty“.

Pope Francis, wants to help us reflect on our way of life and the many poverties of the present moment that demand radical transformations:
“If we want life to triumph over death and dignity to be redeemed from injustice, the way is his: it is to follow the poverty of Jesus Christ, sharing life out of love, breaking the bread of one’s existence with one’s brothers and sisters, starting from the last, from those who lack the necessities, so that equality may be made, the poor may be freed from misery and the rich from vanity, both without hope” (Pope Francis, Message for the VI World Day of the Poor, 13 November 2022).
Let us care for the discarded, in them is Jesus!

“The poor, before being objects of our alms,
are subjects that help to free us
from the ties of restlessness and superficiality”
The poor ask us to be persevering… perseverance: it is building goodness every day, especially when the reality around us urges us to do something else.
