World Refugee Day Let us welcome them
Let us welcome them.
Without distinction:
there are no second-class refugees
The message proposed by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees for World Refugee Day 2022 is no coincidence:
“Whoever they are, wherever they come from. Always. Together #WithRefugees”
It sounds like an obvious message, but it is not. In Europe, for example, paradoxically, the great refugee crisis triggered by the war in Ukraine has highlighted that reception is not for everyone. Discrimination among asylum seekers is the greatest of injustices. “We are dividing A and B refugees. It is a disgrace’ (Source: Avvenire, March 2022).
"All people forced to flee have the right to be protected
and to rebuild their lives, without distinction.
What does protection mean in a country like Italy?
Asylum, reception and integration.
Giving refugees the opportunity to learn, study
and have access to education and employment opportunities
is essential to foster their path of integration".

THE CHURCH SENDS US THE SAME MESSAGE:
THERE IS A FUTURE TO BE BUILT WITH MIGRANTS AND REFUGEES
“NO ONE SHOULD BE EXCLUDED”
(Source: Pope Francis, published last May for the 108th Migrant and Refugee Day)
TO ALL OF US THE RESPONSIBILITY
OF REALISING PATHS OF JUSTICE AND DIGNITY
“How do you think we can build the future with migrants and refugees?”
In Pope Francis’ video we find ways that are accessible to all. Let us try!
