Pope Francis spoke to journalists on his return flight from Baghdad, revealing his thoughts on Alan Kurdi, the child who was shipwrecked with his brother and mother on the Turkish coast in September 2015 while trying to reach Europe with his family: “This child is a symbol of a civilisation of death”.
