20 december – INTERNATIONAL DAY OF HUMAN SOLIDARITY

Fundamental and universal value at the basis of society and relations between peoples

The International Day of Solidarity, established by the UN in 2005 to raise awareness of the issue and, at the same time, to stimulate actions of support and cooperation towards those in difficult situations, is celebrated on 31 August.

20 December is further commemorated to coincide with the date of the creation of the World Solidarity Fund on 20 December 2002, with the aim of implementing action programmers to promote human development, especially in the poorest areas of the planet.

Solidarity is one of the founding values of the legal system, so much so that it is solemnly recognised and guaranteed, together with the inviolable rights of man, as the basis of social coexistence.
